5 Notable Incidents of 2016


We are soon going to step into 2017. This year has been rough for the whole world; a lot of notable incidents took place this year. So before we finally bid farewell to 2016, let’s take a look on 5 most notable incidents.

1. Brexit

This event took the world by storm. It became the headline of every possible media outlets.

Brexit is the portmanteau of “British exit”. The United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union is widely known as Brexit. 52% people voted in favor of leaving Europe during the referendum held on June 23, 2016.

The complete withdrawal will take place by the end of March 2017.

2. Orlando Shooting

We may have heard incidents where LGBT were targeted, but this one was the worst.

It is so shameful that even in this era; people are struggling for their basic human rights.

Omar Mateen, a 29-year-old security guard, caused one of the most terrifying mass shooting in the history of America. Around 49 people were killed and 53 were wounded.

3. Celebrity Deaths

The year has been infamously nicknamed as the year of the reaper. We lost so many popular and influential celebrities this year. This has been happening each year, but this year some of the most beloved names have passed away.

Some of them are Alan Rickman, Greg Lake, David Bowie, Prince, Gene Wilder, Muhammad Ali and many more.

4. United States Presidential Elections

The elections of United States of America are obviously big news, but this time it was heavily covered for more than one reason.

Hilary Trump and Donald Trump were the top candidates for the presidential election. Both of them were constantly brought under the spotlight for their controversial agendas and unorthodox means.

Donald Trump turned out victorious.

So does it end here? No.

It only started a series of riots, raising their voice against the riot.

5. Demonetisation of Currency

On November 8, 2016, it was announced that the currencies of 500 and 1000 won’t be valid anymore. The decision was made to tackle the problem and corruption and black money. It was also believed that the decision will encourage the country to become cashless.

The decision was met with heavy criticism. Though the common man supported it, but the lack of preparation to handle the aftermath of the decision caused a great suffering.
