5 Popular Paintings

Art has been the messenger of the past. It has helped us to understand the past in a better way.

Paintings are one of the most influential parts of the art. They have the ability to say thousand words in a single frame. A log of significant details of that era can be understood through the paintings crafted in the respective era.

Sometimes they became the centre of controversy due to portraying unorthodox ideas that are not accepted by the mainstream audience while sometime they created a trend that grew as a symbol of mainstream. The most beautiful part of art is how subjective they are. People are allowed to interpret the meaning of a certain piece based on their perception.

If you think Mona Lisa is the only beauty on the canvas, don’t tell this to Johannes Vermeer. You can’t do it anyway, he is kind of dead. Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer portrayed a tronie, an improbably large pearl earring is the primary focus along with the girl.

The painting has been in the collection of the Mauritshuis in The Hague since 1902.

The Scarlett Johansson starrer “Girl with a pearl earring” was based on a novel of the same name that depicted a fictionalized version of the circumstances of the painting’s creation.

5. The Persistence Of Memory (by Salvador Dalí)

The painting is not only bizarre but holds a deeper meaning.

In the words of Salvador, the soft watches are an unconscious symbol of the relativity of space and time, a Surrealist meditation on the collapse of our notions of a fixed cosmic order”.

The painting draws several inspirations from Dali’s beliefs and places he has been to.
