5 Uncommon facts about Amma – Jayalalitha


Wrath of 2016 continues. Another legend departed for heaven. This time, it was one of those few politicians who actually cared for the welfare of the common people.

Politicians being caring? Quite contradictory, right!

Jayalalitha received a grand funeral. She dedicated a huge part of her life serving the common man. She handled her position as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu for 5 terms over 14 years.

 

She was suffering from bad health for last few weeks. She finally took her last breath on the 5th of November this year. The whole nation has been praying for her health, but it seems our prayers were just not enough.

Her funeral was attended by a huge crowd. Some of the well known faces attended it.

  1. Bharatnatyam

She learnt Bharatnatyam at the small age of 3.

  1. Being highest paid Tamil Actress at one point

She was forced to join the film industry by her mother at the age of 15. She has appeared in 85 Tamil movies.

She has even done one hit Bollywood movie “Izzat”, opposite to Dharmendra.

  1. Avid reader and writer

She was a state level topper at the time she started her journey in the film industry.

She has shown keen interest in reading and writing, she is known for carrying some of her books wherever she goes. She is fluent in English, Hindi and Tamil.

  1. Lowest salary as CM in the history of India

Where other people join politics for money, she refused to accept any payment as the CM, claiming she has abundant source of income and she does not need a salary.

She eventually accepted a salary of Re 1/-.

  1. Guinness Book of World Records

She showcased a public display of wealth in the year 1995, culminating in a lavish wedding for her foster son in Madras in 1995.

As per Guinness record, over 1,50,000 guests were invited to the wedding at a 50-acre ground in Chennai.
