The year is close to an end, but the year 2016 is leaving us with a lot of bitter memories. We are hoping that 2017 will bring us the happiness to fill the void left by 2016. The year was bad especially for the celebrities.

We lost a lot of influential people this year.

I am going to miss Harambe the most, he died for our sins.

Even a lot of influential Indian celebrities passed away this year.

Here are names of some of the Indian celebrities we lost this December, they passed away this very month.

1. Jagannatha Varma

Death: 20 December, 2016

Age at the time of death: 77

Contribution as: Actor.

He was a trained Kathakali artist. He started a part of the Kerala police, eventually taking up stereotypical roles in movies.

2. Anupam Mishra

Death: 19 December, 2016

Age at the time of death: 68

Contribution as: author, journalist and environmentalist

He is known for his acts to conserve water and raise awareness to make use of rainwater. He has written books like Aaj Bhi Khare Hain Talaab (Lakes are still Standing, 1993) and Rajasthan Ki Rajat Boondein (Radiant Raindrops of Rajasthan, 1995).

3. Saumitra Chaudhuri

Death: 18 December, 2016

Age at the time of death: 62

Cause of death: Lung Cancer

4. Ajit Varman

Death: 15 December, 2016

Age at the time of death: 69

Contribution as: Composer

He has worked for Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Pankaj Mullick, Salil Chowdhury, Shankar Jaikishan and Laxmikant Pyarelal.

5. Ramesh Prabhoo

Death: 11 December, 2016

Age at the time of death: 78

Contribution as: Politician

Prabhoo was a medical doctor and held a MBBS degree. He was elected as a member of Maharashtra’s legislative assembly as an independent candidate in 1987.

6. V. C. Kulandaiswamy

Death: 10 December, 2016

Age at the time of death: 87

Cause of death: Illness

Contribution as: Water conservation

He worked for reform of Tamil script to make learning Tamil easier. He won the Sahitya Akademi Award (1988) for his book Vaazhum Valluvam.

7. P. Viswambharan

Death: 9 December, 2016

He was an active Indian politician, socialist, trade unionist and journalist.

8. Cho Ramaswamy

Death: 7 December, 2016

Age at the time of death: 82

Cause of death: Heart attack

Contribution as: Actor and Lawyer

He was an Indian actor, comedian, character actor, editor, political satirist, playwright and dialogue writer, film director and lawyer in Tamil Nadu.

9. Lalit Mohan Gandhi

Death: 6 December, 2016

Age at the time of death: 65

Cause of death: Train mishap

Contribution as: Politician

In 1980 he served as Minister of State, Information Broadcasting and Public Relations and Planning and Coordination under Janaki Ballabh Patnaik.

10. Jayalalithaa

Death: 5 December, 2016

Age at the time of death: 68

Cause of death: Heart Attack

Contribution as: Politician

She was commonly known as Amma. She dedicated her whole life for the welfare of common man, after a brief but successful film career.

11. Bekal Utsahi

Death: 3 December, 2016

Age at the time of death: 88

Cause of death: Brain hemorrhage

Contribution as: Poet and politician

He was a congressman close to Indira Gandhi and a Member of Parliament in the Upper House Rajya sabha.

He received several national awards, including the Padma Shri and Yash Bharti.

12. Ko. Si. Mani

Death: 2 December, 2016

Age at the time of death: 87

Contribution as: Politician

He was an Indian politician who was the minister for co-operation, statistics and ex-servicemen in the Tamil Nadu state of India between 2006 and 2011 Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) regime

13. Sulabha Brahme

Death: 1 December, 2016

Age at the time of death: 84

Contribution as: Economist

She was a noted economist, Marxist intellectual and social activist, based in Pune, India. She served as the Director of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics.

14. Inkulab

Death: 1 December, 2016

Age at the time of death: 72

Contribution as: Poet and political activist

His poems espousing rationality have been critically acclaimed.[1] Kanmani Rajam, his most famous poem, criticizes the moral bankruptcy of politicians.
