Everyone had high hopes from this year. We lost a lot of beloved celebrities last year, and we expected this year to be different. This year was supposed to be different; it was supposed to be better.
Barely a week has passed, and we lost one of the gems of the Bollywood.
The morning of 6th January bought the news that Om Puri is no longer among us. He suffered a heart attack earlier this morning and as a result, passed away.
He has played critical roles in some of the modern classics of Bollywood. His legacy transcended to Hollywood, he has acted in some of the highly critical Hollywood movies, alongside some of the biggest names of Hollywood.

1. Ardh Satya

The film is considered one of the landmark movies of Bollywood. Even today, it is listed among the best cop movies. The film revolves around a cop who is trying to fight the evil elements of the society, while trying to overcome his limitations.

The movie is known for its use of red herring. The film makes use of actors known for playing negative roles, thus successfully hiding the culprit in plain sight.

Cast: Naseeruddin Shah, Smita Patil, Om Puri, Suresh Oberoi, Deepti Naval, Dina Pathak
The film is set in the period when the country was still under the British rule. Forbes included Smita Patil’s performance in the film on its list, “25 Greatest Acting Performances of Indian Cinema”.
5. China Gate

Cast: Om Puri, Amrish Puri, Naseeruddin Shah, Mukesh Tiwari, Danny Denzongpa, Mamta Kulkarni, Samir Soni
The movie was a tribute to Akira Kurosawa’s work Seven Samurai. It narrates the story of ten officers who take the responsibility to rid a village from the terrors of dreadful dacoit, Jageera. The officers are the last hope for the villagers, although the officers were discharged from army for cowardice.
6.Mere Baap Pehle Aap
Release: 13 June 2008
Cast: Akshaye Khanna, Genelia D’Souza, Paresh Rawal, Om Puri, Rajpal Yadav
The film is a comedic misadventure of a son trying to get his father gets married. The movie was a moderate success.

The film depicts the family of Anuj Nayyar, who passes away as a martyr at the Tiger hill. The movie received critical acclaim for the realistic depiction of how a family goes through after losing a son to war.
